FAST EDDY
KAMLOOPS | SEPTEMBER 2023
My Grandpa Ed (or “Fast Eddy” as his friends and family call him) is the first person I can remember taking photos for the art of it.
When I was younger I would sit for hours in my Grandparents’ house paging through their massive photo albums containing a chaotic mix of family gatherings, wildlife, insects and lightning storms - all of my Grandpa’s favourite things to document.
Even now whenever I go home to see my family, my Grandpa is waiting patiently with his camera ready to give a slideshow of his latest work.
Thirty-plus years later my Grandpa still gets up at the crack of dawn every day to patrol his route along a back road hugging the rugged rock pillars that surround the Thompson-Nicola Valley.
He monitors bird houses, weather patterns, and the mating cycle of the bighorn sheep that roam free in the area, all while keeping notes on his findings.
During my last visit home Fast Eddy invited me to go on his route with him, and I took it as an opportunity to document him doing what he loves most.
